The exhibition spans painting, sculpture, wood, metal, ceramics and other forms of contemporary art.

What makes FuelBox particularly interesting is its choice of location. Rather than relying on conventional galleries, the independent, non-profit artists’ collective regularly occupies **vacant buildings and spaces awaiting redevelopment or demolition**. Artists can engage directly with the existing architecture and work with fewer of the constraints associated with traditional exhibition spaces.

That philosophy fits the Bettembourg location especially well. The municipality had already announced plans to host FuelBox at the **Schoul Am Duerf before its renovation**, following the success of the collective’s previous Bettembourg exhibition in the former municipal workshops in Abweiler.

### Art outside the traditional gallery

FuelBox was initiated by Luxembourg artist **Yvette Rischette**, with its first exhibition taking place in Strassen in 2016. Over the years, editions have occupied unusual locations including the former Paul Wurth industrial site in Luxembourg-Hollerich and former wine cooperative buildings in Stadtbredimus.

The concept creates an interesting dialogue between **art, architecture and transformation**: a building at the end of one chapter becomes a temporary cultural space before beginning another.

The Bettembourg edition will also include **“Konscht – Wat soll dat?” on 16 October**, an open discussion between artists and the public featuring Florence Everling and Menny Olinger. Rather than treating the exhibition space as untouchable, the format encourages visitors to question, discuss and react directly to the works.

**FuelBox XI opens with a vernissage on Thursday, 1 October at 17:00.** The exhibition runs from **2–18 October, 14:00–19:00**, at Schoul Am Duerf, 15 rue de l’École in Bettembourg. **Admission is free.** A shuttle will operate between the Parc Merveilleux car park and FuelBox during the opening evening.

An old school building in Bettembourg is about to get a very different kind of second life.
