It means finding new ways to use resources responsibly, protect our environment and build a society in which future generations can thrive.

With the Luxembourg Sustainability Awards 2026, IMS Luxembourg celebrates, for the third time, organisations and businesses actively contributing to this transformation.

This year’s competition attracted 36 applications, with twelve initiatives shortlisted.

The recognised projects demonstrate that sustainability takes many forms — from renewable energy and biodiversity protection to social inclusion and community engagement.

☀️ Enovos: When Agriculture and Solar Energy Work Together
🏆 Planet Award – “Powering Land Twice”

One of this year’s recognised initiatives comes from Enovos.

With its project “Powering Land Twice”, the energy company demonstrates how agricultural land can serve multiple purposes without necessarily compromising its original function.

The concept is straightforward: agriculture, solar energy generation and biodiversity protection do not have to compete with one another.

By combining agricultural activities with photovoltaic installations, land can contribute simultaneously to food production and renewable electricity generation.

This approach is commonly known as agrivoltaics.

🌱 Multiple Benefits from the Same Land

Agrivoltaic systems offer several potential advantages:

☀️ Renewable energy: Generating clean electricity while maintaining agricultural activities.
🌱 Efficient land use: Making better use of limited land resources.
🐝 Biodiversity: Creating opportunities to support local ecosystems through appropriate land management.
🌍 Climate action: Contributing to the energy transition and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

For a small country like Luxembourg, where agriculture, infrastructure development, housing and nature conservation compete for limited space, such solutions are particularly relevant.

However, the environmental benefits depend heavily on how these systems are designed and managed.

Installing solar panels on agricultural land does not automatically improve biodiversity or guarantee sustainable land use.

The real question is not simply how much electricity a project produces, but how much environmental and social value it creates overall.

🤝 MEC asbl: Sustainability Is Also About People
🏆 People Award – “Super Senior”

When discussing sustainability, attention often focuses on climate change, recycling, renewable energy and environmental protection.

Yet a sustainable society must also be socially inclusive.

With its “Super Senior” initiative, MEC asbl received recognition in the social sustainability category.

The project highlights the importance of older generations and their continued participation in society.

As Europe’s population ages, social inclusion, intergenerational cooperation and the recognition of experience and knowledge become increasingly important.

Sustainability is therefore not exclusively about protecting natural resources.

It is also about how we live together, how we support one another and how we ensure that people of all ages have opportunities to participate in society.

A sustainable future requires both environmental progress and social innovation.

🌿 Sustainability Needs Measurable Results

The Luxembourg Sustainability Awards demonstrate how diverse sustainable innovation can be.

However, awards and public recognition alone do not create a sustainable future.

What ultimately matters is the measurable impact of these initiatives.

Environmental and social projects should increasingly be evaluated through meaningful indicators, such as:

Carbon emissions: How much CO₂ or other greenhouse gas emissions are actually avoided?
Resource efficiency: How much energy, water or raw material is saved?
Biodiversity: What measurable improvements are achieved for local ecosystems?
Scalability: Can successful solutions be replicated in other municipalities, regions or countries?
Social impact: How do initiatives improve people’s lives and strengthen communities?

Sustainability should not merely be communicated through attractive campaigns and ambitious promises.

It should be demonstrated through transparent objectives, measurable achievements and long-term results.

Environmental, economic and social performance must be considered together.

🌍 Save The Planet asbl: Good Ideas Deserve Attention

At Save The Planet asbl, we believe that meaningful sustainability does not emerge exclusively from major political decisions or international agreements.

It also begins with businesses, associations, municipalities and individuals willing to challenge conventional approaches and explore better solutions.

Projects such as Powering Land Twice and Super Senior represent two different but equally important dimensions of sustainable development.

🌱 Environmental Transformation

Protecting our planet requires technological innovation, intelligent resource management, renewable energy solutions and the preservation of natural ecosystems.

🤝 Social Transformation

Building a sustainable society requires inclusion, cooperation, equal opportunities and the active participation of people across generations.

Neither transformation should be considered in isolation.

As a Luxembourg-based non-profit organisation, Save The Planet asbl aims to raise awareness, share knowledge and encourage cooperation between communities, businesses, public institutions and environmental stakeholders.

We believe that successful initiatives should not remain isolated examples.

They should inspire others, encourage collaboration and demonstrate how sustainable practices can be integrated into everyday life.

Because good ideas create their greatest impact when knowledge is shared and successful solutions can be replicated.

💚 Our Message: From Ideas to Impact

Sustainability begins with an idea. Progress comes through action. Real change is measured by its impact.

The Luxembourg Sustainability Awards 2026 remind us that environmental responsibility and social progress are not competing objectives.

They are complementary elements of a more resilient and sustainable society.

We congratulate the recognised initiatives and all participating organisations for their commitment to developing innovative solutions.

Every meaningful contribution matters.

Every successful initiative creates opportunities for others to learn.

And every measurable improvement brings us closer to a more sustainable future.

🌍 Save The Planet asbl
Think Sustainable.
